The Oscar-winning actress selected Heart the Lover by Lily King for her monthly Natalie’s Book Club pick, announcing the selection in a Nov. 2 Instagram post. And among those celebrating the choice was fellow Oscar winner Julianne Moore, who made her feelings about the novel clear in the comments.

Heart the Lover, published in 2025, follows a young aspiring writer during her final year of college who becomes close with two longtime friends. According to Portman, their connection shapes the years that follow.
The novel follows a woman nicknamed Jordan, whose complicated relationship with two men, Sam and Yash, eventually develops into a love triangle. Years later, Jordan has built a life with her husband and children, but an unexpected visitor forces her to confront the relationships and decisions that shaped her younger years.
“For November’s book club pick, I’m reading Heart the Lover by Lily King,” Portman wrote in her Instagram announcement. “The novel follows a young aspiring writer in her last year of college who becomes close with two longtime friends, a connection that shapes the years that follow.”
Portman invited her followers to read along throughout November and thanked Pippa White, a crew member and assistant who has worked with Portman on projects like May December and Lady in the Lake, for recommending the novel.
The Novel Has a Connection to Jenna Bush Hager’s Book Club
Interestingly, Heart the Lover also has a connection to another celebrity book club. The novel is a companion to King’s 2020 book Writers & Lovers, which was previously selected for Jenna Bush Hager’s Read with Jenna Book Club.
