New Nickname For Jeffery Simmons, Two Unsung Heroes From MNF, Caleb’s Cleats, and Other Bears Bullets ...Middle East

My fantasy football team(s) are a mess. But the Chicago Bears are flying high. This is a trade-off I’m willing to make.

In Nov. 2025, the Chicago Bears went on the road and put a shellacking on the defending Super Bowl champs and announced their arrival on the scene as a force to be reckoned with in the NFC. And for good measure, they did it in an island game for everyone across the nation to see. Less than 365 days later, the Bears did it again. They went on the road and blasted the defending Super Bowl champs in a way that declared last year’s efforts weren’t a fluke. For good measure, they did it in an island game. I love that we’ve finally reached a place where primetime games aren’t something we should fear. Now, they are something we (as fans) should embrace.

Two special teams players stand out as unsung heroes from the Bears’ Week 8 win against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. First, kicker Cairo Santos, who went 2-for-2 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra points. That’s 10 points right there! Santos has made five of his last six kicks over his last two games. It feels worth sharing that Santos’ in-season turnaround in 2025 started in November. After what felt like rock bottom in that Bengals game in Week 9, Santos went on a tear by making 18 of 20 field goals (90%) and all 26 of his extra points. That data includes the two playoff games at Soldier Field. I’d love to see history repeat itself. Let’s not forget punter Tory Taylor, whose three boots totaled 147 yards in distance, was highlighted by a long of 57, and featured a blocked punt that went 45 yards. The “banana ball” punt seems to have turned the tide for Taylor. I like how James Lynch is playing. He has collected exactly one pressure and one hurry in each of his last four games. He has been credited with four defensive stops in those games and snagged an interception on MNF. Role players on the defensive line who do dirty work as part of a rotation deserve fist bumps for their efforts. Mandatory Credit: Joe Nicholson-Imagn Images The latest twist in the Caleb Williams footwear saga is a fun one. After racking up more than $35,000 worth of fines, Williams’ fight to wear his Caddix cleats without covering the logo is over. That’s because Caddix came through with a custom pair of cleats that don’t show a logo for QB1 to wear on MNF. What a masterclass in marketing from the Caddix folks. I want to get ahead of this while I can. Let’s credit QB1 for giving Jeffery Simmons his new nickname. Via the Sun-Times:

Quarterback Caleb Williams calls him “Jefe,” the Spanish word for “boss.”

Fellow defensive tackle Grady Jarrett couldn’t wait to get a look at the game film for a better view of how Simmons loosened up the line of scrimmage for him, Montez Sweat, Austin Booker, James Lynch and the other defensive linemen.

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson answered questions mostly by smiling.

Simmons embraced all of it, including the responsibility of being the new leader of this defense.

Fun with small samples: If Jeffery Simmons replicated his debut production every week on a 17-game schedule, it would come out to 17 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and 34 tackles-for-loss. I chuckled when I thought about that stat line and wanted to share it with someone today. An injury to watch for ahead of Week 9’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football (via Nicholas Moreano):

One observation from the Bears’ locker room. I saw Theo Benedet leave with a Bears staff member before the media was allowed into the locker room.

When he came back, he sat at his locker, looking disappointed. As I was getting ready to record an interview, I heard him say separated shoulder.

Benedet finished the game against the Seahawks, but this is something to monitor in the next few days and also on a short week with the Bears hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football.

Benedet played 100 percent of the offensive snaps in Week 8 on MNF. I thought he performed admirably, which continues a trend for him. Nothing great or spectacular, but solid enough to hold down the fort until the situation works itself out. When the first injury report of the week drops this afternoon, we’ll be looking for Benedet’s name and status. Given that the Bears were reportedly sniffing around a Quenton Nelson trade, I wonder if the front office is quietly exploring left tackle options. Some Caleb Williams goodness from Mina Kimes:

— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) November 3, 2026 The NFL on CBS booth of Jim Nantz and JJ Watt addressed the backlash that the Kansas City Chiefs received for signing kicker Justin Tucker last week. I don’t think the brief, honest, and clear messaging from CBS comes as a coincidence after seeing how Prime Video’s booth has been blasted for downplaying the situations involving Packers running back Josh Jacobs and Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson during TNF games earlier this season. Nantz is a pro’s pro, and Watt is growing into a quality partner for the legendary A-team voice on CBS.
