ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Thousands of people across the Rochester region are heading to the polls to cast their ballots on Election Day. A viewer named Cheryl asked about how local Board of Elections officials plan to keep people safe. She wrote:
“What plans does the City of Rochester and Monroe County have in place for safety at the polls on Election Day?”
News10NBC’s Emily Putnam brought Cheryl’s question to the Monroe County Board of Elections. A representative from the Board of Elections said they work with local law enforcement to prepare for elections and provide election inspectors with procedures in case an issue comes up. Inspectors are not expected to put themselves in harm’s way, and any immediate safety concern would warrant a 911 call.
The Board of Elections said: “Any situation that disrupts the voting process, interferes with voters or staff, or creates a safety or security concern should be reported so that the appropriate action can be taken.”
To report an issue at the polls, voters can call the Attorney General’s Office at 866-390-2992 or file a report online. As with any emergent danger, call 911.
