The Kyle Monangai update from Bears Head Coach Ben Johnson isn’t the one we wanted today.
The Bears will be without Monangai for their Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football. This will mark his fourth straight game missed while he has been dealing with toe and thumb issues on the injury report. Monangai last played in the team’s Week 4 win against the New York Jets. He racked up a career-high 30 carries, ran for 146 yards, and scored a pair of touchdowns in the victory. Unfortunately, he hasn’t played since.
What a bummer:
Ben Johnson indicated RB Kyle Monangai will not play this week against Seattle. "I would count him out this week," Johnson said. Final injury report is out later today.
— Sean Hammond (@sean_hammond) October 31, 2026What Will the Bears Do Without RB Kyle Monangai?
Earlier in the week, we shared reporting from NFL insider Ian Rapoport that suggested Kyle Monangai could miss a fourth straight game because of the turf toe injury. And while ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler heard that Monangai’s chances of playing this week were “better,” nothing that happened since then reflected that optimism. Monangai was listed as a DNP on injury reports that dropped on Thursday and Friday. Getting ruled out by the head coach before practice and before the final injury report of the week gets posted tells us everything we need to know about the situation. This stinks.

To be clear, I love what D’Andre Swift brings to the table as a running back. Roschon Johnson has been trending better of late. And Zavier Scott was a training camp favorite before the Minnesota Vikings dumped him as part of the final round of cuts. But the Seahawks defense has given up the sixth-fewest rushing yards, fourth-fewest ground scores, and allowed the second-lowest yards-per-carry average this season. Being without Monangai makes breaking through that defensive brick wall that much more difficult.
You don’t need to be a football savant to know that this will be an all-hands-on-deck ordeal when it comes to the Bears’ running game. In addition to seeing Swift, Johnson, and Scott get carries, we could also see wide receivers Luther Burden III, Zavion Thomas, and even Rome Odunze get touches out of the backfield. Things could get frisky out west on MNF. Stay tuned.
