Deep Purple Cancels Shows After Singer Ian Gillan’s ‘Medical Emergency’ and Hospitalization ...Saudi Arabia

News by : (Parade) -

Deep Purple has canceled two shows on their “Splat!” world tour due to a medical emergency involving the band’s singer Ian Gillan, 81.

“With great disappointment, Deep Purple must announce that they are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at the QI Arena (Leipzig) and tomorrow evening at the Sporthalle (Hamburg),” the group told fans in a Facebook post that was shared on Saturday, Oct. 31. “This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalisation.”

“We understand that this announcement comes at short notice and share the disappointment of all our wonderful fans that we are unable to perform in Leipzig and Hamburg,” the message continued. “Deep Purple and their team are focused on finding a suitable time to reschedule both these shows.”

Noting that “[a]ll tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled dates,” the band finished their message by saying, “With the greatest love and respect… Deep Purple x”

In November 2025, news buzzed that Gillian was considering retirement after the singer shared that he was dealing with eyesight issues.

“It’s one of those things. I’ve only got 30 per cent vision. That won’t get better,” he told Uncut (via Hello!). Mentioning that he now uses his “peripheral vision,” he explained, “I pick up a line by looking at it sideways. But you find a way. You adapt. But it’s achingly tiresome. It takes a long time to do the work.”

However, this past June, he opened up again to Uncut, and denied that he was close to retirement, saying, “Someone connected it with my failing eyesight, but I don’t see how that’s going to ever stop me singing.”

“I will retire or stop when I haven’t got the strength to do it, or when it becomes embarrassing,” he added. “I won’t just keep going for the sake of it. So when people give me a slap and say, ‘Oi, off you go,’ that’ll be it. But we’re getting by so far, and I’m still standing when I walk off at the end of a show, just about.”

Deep Purple’s current tour is scheduled to continue through the rest of the year, before one final concert will take place in June 2027.
