You may want to add an umbrella to your costume plans this Halloween as it looks like Mother Nature has a few tricks up her sleeve.
Light rain showers began early this morning and are expected to continue into the afternoon, though it may lighten up in some areas by peak trick-or-treating hours.
“We’re gonna be dealing with not only some light rain showers, but pockets of drizzle from noon and into the afternoon time frame,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Pete Sack said. “Unfortunately, it might be a soggy Halloween as we go through the day today.”
Around 3 p.m., when many trick-or-treaters are expected to be out or starting their haunts, some shower activity is still expected to be overhead.
“Be prepared,” Sack said. “There are going to be pockets of drizzle out there, so have an umbrella handy with you.”
In the afternoon timeframe, just a few showers are expected, and temperatures will peak around 62 degrees, with a slight breeze from the southeast hitting at around 5 to 10 mph.
No showers are expected in the late evening, though pockets of drizzle are not out of the question. Overnight, however, there are “widely scattered shower chances” and the temperature will drop to around 52 degrees, Sack said.
Daylight saving time ends overnight, so don’t forget to set your clocks back if they don’t fall back automatically.
Stay showers are also not out of the question for Sunday, though temperatures are expected to be slightly milder than on Halloween, with a high around 66 degrees.
After clouds move out of the area briefly on Sunday, they’re expected to return for the start of the work week. A high around 67 degrees is expected Monday, though stray showers are likely to move across the Chicago area throughout the afternoon.
Rain and highs in the mid-60s to 70 degrees are expected throughout the rest of the week.
