One notable exception to this, however, is former Saturday Night Live cast member and prolific comedian Bill Hader, who revealed that he no longer signs autographs after a “f**ked up” encounter he had with an autograph seller.
During an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hader admitted to host Josh Horowitz, “Autograph people don’t like me. I won’t sign things.”
While many might initially get the wrong idea about his lack of interest in signing things, the Barry creator said that he stopped signing things for fans after an autograph seller forced a young child to ask Hader for an autograph at 3 am after the release of Pixar’s Inside Out in 2015.
“You know what it was? I used to sign stuff, and then one time I saw somebody and they had their kid come up to me to sign a BB-8 thing and it was three in the morning,” Hader explained, referencing his credited role in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
“I was leaving the Inside Out premiere, and then we went to an after-party thing and it was super late, and this guy kept his kid up all night,” he continued. “[He] was like, ‘Go over there so he’ll sign it so I can sell it online.’”
Noticing the adult, Hader told the autograph seeker that it was “f**ked up” keeping their child out so late and forcing him to obtain Hader’s autograph.
“So now, I just kind of blanket, like, I’m not signing any of this s**t,” the Superbad actor went on to say.
