The Chicago Bears might not be done working ahead of the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport says the Bears still might be trying to reel in a trade for edge rusher Khalil Mack. Check out the video here:

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 29, 2026Here is the full quote from Rap Sheet:
“Khalil Mack is another big-time name we’re going to be discussing before the trade deadline. The Los Angeles Chargers have yet to win a game. You were just discussing it, they do not believe they are in sell-mode. They believe they’re going ot turn it around at some point. If they do not turn it around, Mack will be the top name. The Chicago Bears just traded for Jeff Simmons. They still do have a need on the edge. I would expect them to at least inquire about this one.”
I love the idea that the Bears aren’t just happy to get one deal done. General Manager Ryan Poles’ move to trade for Jeffery Simmons was a declaration of his belief in this team’s championship window for the next three years. But if Poles wants to put more of a focus on trying to make it happen this season, then a pursuit of Mack would be rational in my book.

It checks out that the Bears still have an appetite to improve their team. Because even after adding Simmons, you wouldn’t have to work hard to build a case that Chicago still needs defensive line help. Montez Sweat is set to return from his two-game suspension when the Bears take the field on Monday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks. But it’s not as if Sweat was a dominant force before his suspension. Austin Booker is a solid player, but his best games have come when Sweat was rushing the passer on the other side of the defensive alignment. Logically, bringing back Khalil Mack makes so much sense.
To be clear, Mack, 35, isn’t the same player he was when the Bears traded for him in 2018. But that doesn’t mean he can’t still be a disruptive force. Mack has 3 sacks, 5 tackles-for-loss, and 6 quarterback hits. The nine-time Pro Bowler is Pro Football Focus’ 23rd-highest-graded edge defender among the 113 who have played enough snaps to qualify for the leaderboard. And his grades as a run defender (71.2, 30th) and pass rusher (66.1, 39th) still rank among the top half of players at his position group. If the Bears can surround Simmons with a wave of edge defenders, it would make Chicago’s defense that much more formidable.
League insiders say that Khalil Mack going back to the Bears “makes the most sense” ahead of the 2026 NFL Trade Deadline. And for what it’s worth, it sounds like the Bears have kept in contact with the Chargers on a potential Mack deal. It’s just that the Chargers don’t seem to have any interest in moving Mack in a trade. Perhaps that changes if Los Angeles falls to 0-7 this weekend. With the Bears not playing until Monday, it feels like a good time to spend a Sunday as a fair-weather Rams fan. The battle of Los Angeles kicks off at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX, in case you were curious.
