Friday, October 30th – Tuesday, November 3rd Tokyo Aquatics Centre LCM (50m) Results

A trio of powerhouse performers highlighted day one of the 57th Tokyo Swimming Center Outstanding Athletes Invitational, with Olympic medalist Tomoyuki Matsushita and 17-year-olds Yumeki Kojima and Shin Ohashi diving in for some long course domestic racing.

Ohashi was especially impressive, putting up a super speedy result of 58.77 to win the men’s 100m breaststroke, clocking the sole time of the field under the minute barrier.

Ohashi opened in 27.50 and brought it home in 31.27 to come within striking distance of his own Japanese national record and World Junior record of 58.54. That quicker outing was registered at this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships, rendering Ohashi the 12th-fastest man ever in the event.

Kojima and Matsushita battled in the men’s 200m backstroke tonight, with the former holding the lead until about the final 30m.

Kojima settled for silver in a time of 1:56.49, with Matsushita hitting 1:55.92 as the gold medalist.

While Kojima, the reigning World Junior record holder in both the 200m IM and 400IM, has been as fast as 1:55.38 in his young career, Matsushita’s performance here checked in as a lifetime best. He cleared the 1:56 barrier for the first time, overtaking his former PB of 1:56.75 to become Japan’s 6th-fastest performer ever.

This trio of athletes is coming off an impressive run at the 2026 Asian Games, with Kojima and Matsushita tangling for gold and silver in the IM races and Ohashi blasting a new senior World record of 2:04.83 in the 200m breast.
