For the past two months, Harry Styles hasn’t just been playing New York City. He’s been living in it. The relationship is getting serious, and now Manhattan is making it official.
Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal has proclaimed Friday, Oct. 30, Harry Styles Appreciation Day, honoring the singer’s music and the memories he has made at Madison Square Garden. The date lands on the second-to-last night of Styles’ record 30-night Together, Together residency, which has packed the Midtown arena every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday since Aug. 26.
In his statement, shared by Rolling Stone, Hoylman-Sigal called Styles “a once-in-a-generation musical talent.” He also praised the former part-time baker from England for reaching the top while staying humble and positive along the way.
That down-to-earth reputation is part of his appeal and why New Yorkers have embraced him. Rather than hiding between shows, Styles has made the city feel like home. He’s been spotted walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan on concert days, stopping into coffee shops and chatting with fans on the street. For many locals, running into Harry became part of the weekly routine, almost as normal as catching the subway.
View this post on InstagramHis bond with the Garden runs deep, too. Styles played two nights there in 2018, five in 2021 and 15 in 2022, before this year’s history-making run. Fans got a sweet reminder of that connection on Wednesday night, when he performed “Ever Since New York” for the first time in four years. The deep cut from his self-titled debut is one he saves for special occasions, and the last time he played it was to celebrate his 15th night at MSG.
With two Harryween shows left, fans are already feeling the post-tour blues. And while the residency is nearing its conclusion, Manhattan’s tribute makes clear that Styles’ connection with New York extends beyond the stage.
