What About Old Friend Nahshon Wright as a Chicago Bears Trade Target? ...Middle East

Let’s keep an eye on Nahshon Wright as a potential Chicago Bears trade target.

This nugget, via Jets reporter Rich Cimini, grabbed my attention:

Also: CB Nahshon Wright tells ESPN that he’s "definitely frustrated" by having no role on defense. Asked if he has requested a trade, he said, "Not formally…(But) I’ve expressed my feelings (to the team)."

Wright telling the ESPN reporter that he is “definitely frustrated” by the lack of playing time in New York is understandable. The 28-year-old cornerback hasn’t played a defensive snap this season. He has played in three games, but all 22 of his snaps have come on special teams. Wright was a healthy scratch in Weeks 3-6 before being activated and getting in on four special teams snaps in the team’s Week 7 loss against the Miami Dolphins.

For what it’s worth, Wright has yet to put in a formal trade request, but the fact that he has expressed his discontent to the team speaks volumes about the situation. To be clear, I don’t think trading for Wright will fix all that ails the Bears’ defense. But this looks like a good “buy-low” scenario for a team that needs cornerback help. Adding a player who knows the system and played well in it last year could be helpful — even if the move wouldn’t be sexy.

What About A Nahshon Wright Reunion With the Chicago Bears?

Going into the Bears-Jets game in Week 4, I wondered if we’d see Wright get some snaps against his old teammates. After all, it wouldn’t have been an out-of-pocket idea to throw a guy on the field to face an offense he practiced against and hope for the best. Instead, Wright was a healthy scratch. In that moment, as I was putting together the post sharing the list of inactive players for that game, I first started thinking about the ex-Bears cornerback as a possible trade target.

Here’s what I wrote at the time:

The New York Jets’ inactive list includes Nahshon Wright. A Pro Bowl cornerback for the 2025 Bears, Wright signed a one-year contract with the Jets in free agency last spring. Unfortunately, Wright hasn’t found his footing in the Big Apple and has been inactive the last two weeks. If this trend continues and the Bears still need help in the secondary, I wonder if GM Ryan Poles will call the Jets and try to reacquire Wright for pennies on the dollar.

Now, we’re heading into Week 8 with the Bears needing help in the secondary, and Wright might as well have one foot out the door in New York. Maybe a deal can be made between these two teams.

Nahshon Wright was a Pro Bowler after a 2025 season in which he set career highs in interceptions, passes defended, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, total tackles, tackles-for-loss, and pretty much every notable category you could think of for a defensive back. No one made more performance-based pay last season than Wright. But because of how free agency unfolded, he couldn’t parlay his tremendous 2025 season into a major payday in the offseason.

I understand that some of his success could be brushed away as fluky. But if the price is right, I’d be willing to see the Bears roll the dice on a player who performed at a high level for them last season. Maybe Chicago’s front office can squeeze a late-round pick swap out of the deal to take a disgruntled player off the Jets’ hands. Again, it wouldn’t be the blockbuster deal Bears fans want. And I’m sorry for that in advance. But reacquiring Wright is sensible and logical. At a minimum, we’ll keep an eye on his situation to see what happens.
