Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is pleased to announce the return of the Jupiter Ball. The signature Chapel Hill gala revives a proud 25-year history to benefit the “Science for All” initiative with a premier evening of celebration and philanthropy.
Set for Saturday, November 21, 2026, this intimate and immersive gala will transport guests through a cosmic playground across two of Chapel Hill’s most iconic campus spaces: the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and Graham Memorial Hall.
The return of the Jupiter Ball marks an exciting new chapter. As Morehead builds upon a 75-year legacy of inspiring generations of North Carolinians to look up and ask questions, this resurrected cornerstone event will fuel the next phase of the planetarium’s mission.
The evening’s festivities will begin at 6:00 PM, guiding attendees through a unique multi-venue experience including cocktails and interactive experiences, kicking off throughout the exhibits and spaces of the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
Guests will then transition to Graham Memorial Hall for a seated dinner, special program, and live auction. Following dinner, guests will return to Morehead for an unforgettable after-party, featuring dancing under the stars inside the planetarium dome.
While the night promises elegance, fine dining, and entertainment, its true core lies in a profound mission. All proceeds from the Jupiter Ball directly benefit Science for All (the Jupiter Ball Fund), Morehead’s statewide initiative designed to expand access to science and space education across all 100 North Carolina counties.
According to Todd Boyette, Director of Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, “Each year, Morehead engages audiences in all 100 North Carolina counties. The only way we can do this is through philanthropic support, which is why I am pleased Jupiter Ball will raise money and awareness for our efforts. STEM education matters, no matter where you live.”
Funds raised during the evening will provide critical support, including:
Field trips and immersive educational experiences for students statewide. Essential resources, grants, and support for educators. Community science and skywatching programs. Scholarships and accessible admission pricing to ensure Morehead remains truly accessible to children and families from every corner of North Carolina.“The Jupiter Ball is not only going to be an incredible night—it supports a mission that means so much to us,” said Jonathan Mills, Jupiter Ball Committee Co-Chair. “There is something pretty amazing about giving a child the chance to walk into a planetarium, look up at the stars, and discover a whole new world of possibilities.”
Because space for the 2026 Jupiter Ball is strictly limited to maintain an intimate atmosphere, early interest is encouraged. Tickets are now available on the Morehead Planetarium website at give.unc.edu/events/mpsc/jupiterball. Join the celebration and return of this historic tradition and ensure that the wonder of science remains open to all.
