In the sequel installment, the scene happens towards the end as Marty (Fox) tries to outrun Biff on a hoverboard through a tunnel. Marty manages to grab onto a flag rope Doc (Lloyd) provides from above in the DeLorean. As Marty is hoisted to safety, Biff crashes into the back of a manure truck.
“She really laughed out loud at that — I mean, she really guffawed, and I was surprised,” Lloyd writes.
Lloyd admits that seeing Princess Diana gleefully laugh at the scene humanized her. For the actor, the gag seemed beneath someone of such high status as a royal. He realized that their film’s comedy was universal.
“What kind of message does her enjoyment of that moment send?” he wrote. “I suppose that kind of humor is pretty universal. I just didn’t expect it from royalty.”
In Lloyd’s memoir, he recounts his well-spent years working on the films. He even admits the third installment is still his favorite and the one regret he had while filming it.
