Hubert Davis will be back on TV next month.
Davis, who was fired as the UNC head coach in March, is joining TNT as a studio and game analyst for the 2026-27 college basketball season. According to Sports Business Journal, the deal is for multiple years. Davis’ first studio appearance is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5 as part of a tripleheader of games on truTV and HBO Max.
“Such an unbelievable, respected partner in regards to college basketball,” Davis told The Athletic of the move to TNT. “You want to be affiliated with the best.”
Prior to coaching at UNC, Davis was an analyst for ESPN’s college basketball coverage, eventually becoming a staple on the network’s College GameDay broadcasts. Following the 2011-12 season, Davis came back to Chapel Hill to join head coach Roy Williams’ staff. When Williams retired in 2021, Davis was named as his successor.
Davis spent five seasons as UNC’s head coach, leading the Tar Heels to the national title game in 2022. The following four years, though, were marked by inconsistencies: Carolina became the first-ever preseason No. 1 team to miss the NCAA Tournament entirely in 2023, rebounded with a No. 1 seed in 2024 but lost in the Sweet 16, then got bounced in the Round of 64 in each of the next two tournaments. It was the first time since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985 that the Tar Heels had lost consecutive games in the Round of 64.
TNT, along with CBS, truTV and TBS, holds the rights to broadcast the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament through 2032. The 2027 tournament will be the first to expand to 76 teams, a move which Davis praised.
“Giving more teams, more kids, more coaches opportunities to play in this tournament is something that’s going to be fun to watch,” he told Sports Business Journal.
Currently, UNC has no games scheduled to be broadcast on TNT, though that is liable to change if the Tar Heels qualify for the NCAA Tournament this coming March.
