Apple Acknowledges iPhone Duo Display Issues as New iPad mini Is Announced ...Middle East

News by : (MacSources) -

Apple is offering replacements for affected iPhone Duo units following reports of inner-display damage, while its newly announced iPad mini brings an OLED display, A20 Pro chip, and a redesigned, thinner profile.

This past Friday, October 23, Apple launched the iPhone Duo, its first foldable device. Pre-orders began October 16, and some customers face estimated delivery dates as late as January or February 2027.

While early adopters have been excited to get their hands on Apple’s newest iPhone, reports of display problems have begun circulating online. Several users have shared images of cracks and other damage along the inner display’s crease, near the hinge.

On Monday, October 26, Apple issued a statement acknowledging an issue affecting a small number of iPhone Duo units. The company also outlined what affected customers should do if they experience display problems.

“The response to iPhone Duo from early users has been incredibly positive, and we are seeing exciting things from developers who are rapidly updating their apps to take advantage of its unique form factor. We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units. If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”

Apple has not identified the specific cause of the display issue in its statement. For now, the company’s guidance is straightforward: customers experiencing problems with their iPhone Duo display should contact AppleCare to arrange a replacement.

Apple Announces a Redesigned iPad mini

In addition to addressing the iPhone Duo display issue, Apple has announced a significant update to its iPad mini lineup. The new model features an 8.5-inch OLED display, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, faster wireless connectivity, and a thinner, lighter design.

The redesigned iPad mini retains the compact footprint of the previous generation while offering a larger screen. Apple achieved this by reducing the bezels by 24 percent, allowing the tablet to accommodate the new display without increasing its overall size.

The Super Retina XDR OLED display offers deeper blacks, improved contrast, and peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits. Apple is also offering an optional nano-texture display designed to reduce glare in bright environments, which could benefit users who work outdoors or use the tablet in challenging lighting conditions.

At just 5.4 mm thick, the new iPad mini is thinner than its predecessor. It is available in midnight and starlight finishes and adds an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

A20 Pro Powers the Next iPad mini

The A20 Pro chip brings improvements to CPU, graphics, and artificial intelligence performance. Apple says the new iPad mini delivers up to 60 percent faster multithreaded CPU performance, up to 2.7 times faster graphics performance, and up to 4.5 times faster AI performance compared with the previous generation.

The tablet also supports Apple’s next generation of Apple Intelligence features through iPadOS 27, including Siri AI, which is rolling out in beta. Additional features include improved photo-editing tools, systemwide dictation enhancements, and expanded productivity capabilities.

Other updates include a 12MP Center Stage front camera positioned along the landscape edge, a 12MP rear camera with 4K video recording, an updated Acoustic Display audio system, and support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread. Cellular models use Apple’s C2 modem, which the company says provides up to 50 percent faster cellular data speeds than the previous generation.

The new iPad mini also supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). A redesigned Smart Folio is available separately.

iPad mini Pricing and Availability

Customers can pre-order the new iPad mini beginning Wednesday, October 28, with availability starting Friday, November 6.

The tablet comes in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB configurations, with pricing starting at $699 for the Wi-Fi model and $849 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model. Eligible education customers can purchase the Wi-Fi version starting at $649.

The new Smart Folio costs $79. Apple Pencil Pro is priced at $129, while Apple Pencil (USB-C) costs $79.
