ONTARIO COUNTY, N.Y. — An Ontario County judge is accused of trying to influence another judge’s handling of a criminal case last year involving a family friend of hers.
The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct issued a formal complaint against Judge Kristina Karle, who serves as an acting Supreme Court Justice and a county and family court judge. The complaint alleges that Karle communicated with another judge and staff at another court to get information about the arraignment of the family friend and to request that bail be set.
According to the complaint, Karle reached out in January of 2025 as a favor for her sister and “repeatedly invoked her judicial title” during her communication. At the end of the report, the commission says Karle’s conduct was improper and warrants discipline by “admonition,” meaning a form of public reprimand.

The report says Karle self-reported the misconduct shortly after it occurred and cooperated with the commission. According to the report, Karle sent a text message to the judge’s phone, saying “I am a county court judge in Ontario county” and “could you kindly call me on a case you have on this morning at 930?”
The report says that, at the time, the judge hadn’t received an arrest warrant for the defendant. Several hours later, the judge sent Karle a text message saying they had “received word” of an arrest warrant and the defendant being scheduled for court.
The complaint says Karle then texted the judge asking the judge to “please set bail and hold her.” After reading the text, the judge sought advice from legal counsel for the Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, which advised that the judge should file a report with the Commission on Judicial Conduct.
