To millions of fans, Lady Gaga has been “Mother Monster” for years, the fierce protector of her devoted Little Monsters. Now that she’s a mom herself, one of her dancers says the nickname fits her better than ever.
Michael Dameski, 30, who danced in Gaga’s “Abracadabra” music video and on her Mayhem Ball world tour, spoke with People at the Dancers Against Cancer Industry Dance Awards in Los Angeles this week. He called the pop star “the hardest worker I think I’ve ever encountered in my life,” adding that watching her work ethic up close inspired him and that he’s grateful for the experience.
Dameski has seen Gaga’s protective side firsthand. During a Mayhem Ball stop at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on Dec. 13, 2025, Gaga abruptly halted her performance after Dameski slipped off a rain-soaked stage. She rushed to the edge to check on him and stopped the music. Later, she paused the show again to make sure the dancers had better grip on their shoes. Dameski reassured fans on Instagram afterward that he was OK and grateful to have finished the year’s last show.
View this post on InstagramThat kind of care is exactly what Dameski highlighted when discussing Gaga’s newest role. The singer, 40, welcomed her first child with fiancé Michael Polansky in June. “I think, for me, it’s just the way she just would treat us [on tour and set] – with so much care and love,” he told People excusively. “I really see [motherhood] for her and I’m really excited for her.”
It’s been a banner year for Gaga. Her album Mayhem arrived in March 2025, the tour she co-produced with Polansky wrapped at Madison Square Garden in April, and her daughter arrived just two months later.
For the dancers who spent months by her side, the analogy makes sense. The same Gaga who works harder than anyone in the room also stops everything when one of her own goes down. Mother Monster, it turns out, was practice for the real thing.
