Below Deck Mediterranean’s Gael Cameron is opening up about domestic violence in an emotional Instagram post featuring Australia’s Sweethearts memorial.
The reality TV star’s ex, Below Deck Med’s bosun Nathan Gallagher, made headlines last summer after a December 2025 arrest on domestic violence charges was made public.
In August, he told Rolling Stone that he “made mistakes,” but “I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened.” He added, “What has been publicly reported, however, represents only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation.” According to New South Wales Police, per Rolling Stone, Gallagher was charged with “assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally choking a person without consent, and common assault.”
While Cameron hasn’t spoken at length about the alleged assault, she did post a poignant statement on Instagram earlier this month, writing about her time in Croatia (when Gallagher was filming Below Deck Med), “You didn’t get to see much of my time in Croatia. It wasn’t the easiest chapter in my life, and there’s still so much left to be said about that time.”

The installation by artists Philippa Lysaght and Omi McCurdie features 56 concrete sweethearts — each one for a victim who lost their life to domestic violence.
Cameron’s post includes a video of the memorial and the caption, “56 hearts. One for each woman whose life ended at the hands of someone they once chose to trust this year alone in Australia.”

In an eye-opening admission, Cameron added, “Knowing how close I came to being one of those hearts I cried. Not for myself. I cried for the families, and for those who lost their loves at the hands of another. But also for the women still there. Still stuck. Whose fate still feels out of their hands.”
Cameron also candidly “spoke” to other women who are also experiencing violence at the hands of someone they once loved: “To all the women and men who have messaged me with similar stories: I hear you, I see you. There are women who can’t share this. Can’t like it, can’t save it, can’t have it sitting in their phone. I know you’re there. I have hope that someday you get to say to yourself the same thing I say to myself every day that keeps me going…And is the reason you see me on here grateful for every day I get to be here.”
