ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Months after tests at St. Mary’s Campus showed elevated levels of Legionella bacteria in the drinking water, the latest tests show no detectable levels of Legionella.
Rochester Regional Health, which owns the campus, said the latest water samples were collected on Sept. 21. RRH said in a statement that it will continue to test its water quality.
In late July, RRH put in place drinking water restrictions because tests showed elevated Legionella levels. Staff have provided water for drinking and brushing teeth and have used alternative bathing options for patients and residents. News10NBC is working to learn if the drinking water restrictions have been lifted.
Legionella bacteria can infect lungs and lead to Legionnaires’ disease, a serious type of pneumonia, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Symptoms include high fever, cough, diarrhea, and confusion, and it’s commonly caught from water or cooling systems in large buildings.
