Each week, throughout the college football season, fans, alumni, media and the teams themselves look to the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll to see who is rising and moving within the national rankings. The new poll follows Week 7 games.
Purple reign.
Tarleton State has ascended to No. 1 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll – the first-ever top national ranking for a football program that played its first game in 1904.
The purple-clad Texans improved to 7-0 with a 49-35 win over Central Arkansas Saturday night, hours after then-No. 1 South Dakota State lost to North Dakota. Coach Todd Whitten’s squad, one of three unbeaten FCS teams, received 49 of the 57 first-place votes in the national media poll.
Their United Athletic Conference win clinched a winning season for the Texans – something they have achieved every year since moving into the FCS in 2020.
Stephen F. Austin (7-0), which, like Tarleton, has purple-and-white school colors, has the No. 2 ranking ahead of reigning FCS champion Montana State (6-1). Harvard (5-0), the other unbeaten, is 15th.
The Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll is released each Monday during the regular season and one day after the FCS championship game (Jan. 11 in Nashville, Tennessee). A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
