LAS VEGAS — The Buffalo Bills are heading into their bye week with a 5-1 record after Sunday’s thrilling 33-30 victory over the Raiders in Las Vegas.

Bills head coach Joe Brady said the team still has a lot to clean up, but is proud of the players who stepped up when the game was tied 23-23 with just over 8 minutes left in the game. A James Cook rushing touchdown and a field goal from Tyler Bass gave the Bills the lead, even with a Raiders’ 44-yard touchdown pass completion toward the end of the game. Brady said the Bills’ best may be yet to come.

DRIVE-BY-DRIVE RECAP: Bills beat the Raiders 33-30

“The way that they handled themselves all week, the trust that I had for them and the responsibility and the way that they handled it all, then just to come out here and find the way to win,” he said. “It speaks to the character and who we have. And I love that the guys know that we haven’t played our best football. And so they’re not pleased with that. But we’re winning football games, and I’m so proud of them for that.”

Josh Allen passed for 255 yards during the game, with Keon Coleman receiving 59 of those and a touchdown pass. In addition, Cook had 58 receiving yards to go along with 95 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown. However, Josh says there’s still room to improve on offense.

“We left a lot of points on the field. I don’t think we were very good in the red zone tonight. So yeah, we’ll learn from this. We’ll clean it up. And, you know, offensively, we felt like we hurt ourselves,” Allen said.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson issues apology

Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson issued an apology after he was ejected from the game just before halftime for spitting on Raiders tight end Brock Bowers.

Gardner-Johnson, who’s playing his first season with the Bills, issued the statement on his Instagram, saying he has to “hold himself to a higher standard.” He apologized to his opponent, his teammates, and the entire Bills organization.

During his postgame comments, Bills head coach Joe Brady said he hadn’t seen the clip showing the spitting yet, but said the whole team’s discipline needs to improve.

Gardner-Johnson had another ejection and fines while playing for other NFL teams. In 2024, he was ejected for two taunting penalties while playing for the Eagles against the Washington Commanders. Here’s his statement:

“I want to take a moment to address my actions and sincerely apologize to my opponent, my teammates, my organization, and everyone who supports me. My passion and competitive nature have always been a huge part of who I am, but I also understand that there is a line that should never be crossed. The gesture I made toward my opponent was inappropriate, unnecessary, and not a reflection of the respect I have for him or this game.”

“There is no excuse for my actions, and I take full accountability. No matter how emotional or intense the competition gets, I have to hold myself to a higher standard. To my opponent, I sincerely apologize. We compete hard between those lines, but respect should always remain at the forefront.”

“One moment does not define my character, but how I respond to that moment matters. I will learn from this, grow from it, and continue to lead with the integrity, passion, and respect that have carried me throughout my career. I love this game, I respect this game, and I will always protect the integrity of this game. My actions will speak louder than my words moving forward.”

What’s next for the Bills?

After two straight wins on the West Coast, the Bills will have a week to rest before returning to Highmark Stadium to take on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Nov. 1. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on CBS. You can also listen to radio coverage on FM 95.1 in Rochester.

The Bills remain in first place in the AFC East, with the New England Patriots not far behind at 4-2. Both the Jets and the Dolphins have losing records.
