Broncos games rarely come without a nerve-racking finish, and the win over Seattle was no exception. Denver escaped with a 17-14 overtime victory over the Seahawks in an exciting back-and-forth battle. The defense deserves much of the credit, but a few key contributors on offense and special teams also played important roles in securing the win.
Pro Football Focus (PFF) has released its Week 6 player grades, offering a closer look at Denver’s best and worst individual performances from the loss.
Offense
Best
OT Garett Bolles: 78.8 RB RJ Harvey: 78.8 C Luke Wattenberg: 73.2 G Quinn Meinerz: 73.0 RB Tyler Badie: 63.2After being virtually invisible last week, Harvey was a standout on offense against Seattle. He averaged 4.2 yards per carry, added three receptions for 31 yards, and scored a touchdown to play a key role in the win. Despite seeing just six carries compared to Dobbins’ 17, Harvey finished with only 16 fewer rushing yards.
Worst
QB Bo Nix: 45.4 OT Mike McGlinchey: 48.9 G Ben Powers: 50.3 RB J.K. Dobbins: 52.9 WR Troy Franklin: 52.9It’s remarkable that Denver was able to win despite Nix finishing at the bottom of PFF’s grades. He threw for just 107 yards, but he also avoided turning the ball over. That proved to be the difference, as turnovers ultimately cost Sam Darnold and the Seahawks.
Defense
Best
LB Alex Singleton: 90.5 DE Sai’vion Jones: 80.9 OLB Nik Bonitto: 78.2 OLB Que Robinson: 75.0 S Devon Key: 74.3Much of the credit for the win belongs to Denver’s defense, which came up with several key plays throughout the game. According to PFF, Singleton led the team with 12 total tackles without a single miss. Bonitto and Robinson combined for 11 pressures and two sacks, while Ja’Quan McMillian (61.6) came up with the overtime interception that set up the game-winning field goal.
Worst
CB Jahdae Barron: 37.8 DL Malcolm Roach: 54.8 CB Kris Abrams-Draine: 55.1 S Brandon Jones: 58.3 OLB Dondrea Tillman: 60.8Abrams-Draine and Barron took a hit for allowing Jaxon Smith-Njigba to haul in 12 receptions for 134 yards. However, Abrams came up with a potentially game-saving interception late in the fourth quarter, preventing Seattle from taking the lead with little time remaining.
Special Teams
ST Kris Abrams-Draine: 92.4 LS Mitchell Fraboni: 64.9 KR Marvin Mims Jr.: 60.4 P Jeremy Crawshaw: 75.0 K Wil Lutz: 77.5 (FG) 60.0 (KO)As is often the case with punters, Crawshaw has quietly been one of Denver’s most important difference-makers. He finished with eight punts for 395 yards, including a long of 56 yards. Lutz also deserves credit for drilling the game-winning 53-yard field goal in overtime.
Coming off some extra rest, the Broncos will hit the road to take on the Arizona Cardinals. Kickoff is next Sunday at 2:05 pm MST.
