Yu Yiting broke her second Asian record of the World Cup with a 2:02.63 to claim the triple crown in the women’s 200 IM today, slicing 0.17 seconds off her previous mark of 2:02.80.

She had claimed the record two weeks ago at the first stop in Baku, and was just half a second slower last week with a 2:03.34, despite going out a full second faster. She hit a middle ground this week with her splits, pulling away from Roos Vanotterdijk on the second half of the race.

Yu wrapped up her second triple crown of the week, having already done so in the 400 IM in Astana on day 1, and this marked the fourth time that a 200 IM Asian record has fallen in the last month.

Yu Zidi reset the Women’s LCM 200 IM record with a 2:06.10 at the Asian Games on September 21st, the #2 swim in history, Yu Yiting then broke the SCM version two weeks ago and then again today, while Tomoyuki Matsushita set the men’s SCM 200 IM record with a 1:50.42 at the Japanese Short Course Championships on Monday.

This is the second Asian record set at the world cup this week, after Ching Hwee Gan lowered Li Bingjie’s 1500 free record on the first day.

Yu now owns Asian records in the 100 IM and 200 IM in short course, having missed the 400 IM record by just 0.01 seconds on day 1 in Astana with a 4:22.74 Chinese record. That ranks her #1 in the world this year, and she also now ranks #1 in the world in the 200 IM, 0.13 seconds ahead of Kate Douglass‘s 2:02.76 from the UVA SCM meet last night.
