Cam McEvoy made his third final from three events in the final prelims session of the 2026 World Cup series, placing 9th in the men’s 200 free.

He clocked a time of 1:45.74, nearly five seconds off his PB of 1:40.80 from 2015, in what was his first SCM 200 free swim since 2018 and his first of any kind since 2020.

McEvoy split 50.29/55.50, going out third-fastest of anyone but suffering slightly on the back half of the race. China’s He Yubo (1:43.02) and USA’s Shaine Casas (1:43.96) led the field as the only swimmers under 1:44 this morning.

Marrit Steenbergen cruised through the 100 free prelims as the #4 seed, posting 53.24 to trail top seed Daria Klepikova (52.96) by three tenths of a second. Steenbergen set a new European record of 50.32 last week, but was overtaken in the season rankings by Kate Douglass and Gretchen Walsh earlier this week. Siobhan Haughey (53.16) will aim to repay Steenbergen for busting her crown in the 200 free on day 1.

World record holder Pieter Coetze threw down a rapid heats swim of 22.56 in the men’s 50 back, one of only two swims under 23 seconds alongside Pavel Samusenko (22.90). Coetze shaved 0.02 seconds off Kliment Kolesnikov‘s world record last week with a winning time of 22.09, having been 22.64 in the heats, but Samusenko took the win a week prior in 22.35.

Egor Kornev, who also set a world record last week, is the top seed in the men’s 50 fly after clocking a time of 22.30 this morning, a second off his world record of 21.28. Isaac Cooper was just behind in 22.39, four tenths off his best of 21.96 from last week.

Other Event Highlights:

Ralina Giliazova (30.01) is the top seed in the women’s 50 breast after winning the event last week. Mona McSharry, who won the 100 breast triple crown, is just behind in 30.17 while 200 breast triple crown winner Evgeniia Chikunova is sixth in 30.40. Roos Vanotterdijk is the top seed in the women’s 200 IM in 2:09.96, although Yu Yiting (2:10.80) is on track for a triple crown and was blisteringly fast as she set a new Chinese record in the 400 IM on day 1. Caspar Corbeau led the men’s 100 breast in 57.00, just ahead of 100 IM champion Luke Barr‘s 57.31. Triple crown threat Kirill Prigoda was down in eighth with a 58.71, just three tenths of a second away from missing the final. Steenbergen will also go for a triple crown in the 100 back this evening, clocking a 58.51 this morning to sit a second behind Taylor Ruck‘s 57.52. Steenbergen matched Kira Toussaint‘s Dutch record of 55.17 at the first stop in Baku before posting a 55.32 last week.
