Over 200GB of reported Cartoon Network production material has turned up on the internet, offering fans an unusual glimpse into the actual creative work that goes into some of the network’s most well-known animated series. The leak contains storyboards, character designs and animation assets from several shows, including The Powerpuff Girls, The Amazing World of Gumball and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.
The leak started circulating online in October via an anonymous account on X (formerly Twitter) known as ‘totallynotaburner’. Mashable reported that they had accessed a Google Drive folder containing the production files and confirmed the nature of the material. The full extent of the leak and the provenance of all the files have not been independently established.
The files reportedly cover several decades of animation (including material related to The Looney Tunes Show, Duck Dodgers and Garfield), and there’s a separate document linked to files relating to Teen Titans, Dexter’s Laboratory, Robot Chicken and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. Some of those links have since been removed in response to copyright claims.

The importance of the leak is not just that we’re seeing familiar characters in unfinished artwork. The production materials show how the animators go about developing a character’s look, how they work out scenes, and how they maintain visual consistency from episode to episode.
Character model sheets provide the reference drawings and detail that allow the artists to draw the character from all angles. Storyboards are used to lay out the scenes before full animation. Digital puppet rigs are used by the animators during the actual production of the animation. For the viewer who grew up on Cartoon Network, the files are a window into the actual work that went into making the shows that were part of their formative years. For the animation fan, they’re a look at the technical and artistic decisions that went into creating those worlds.
The incident follows very closely on the heels of the completion of the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition by Paramount Skydance (completed in October 2026).
This isn’t the first time the network has had a security incident. In April 2019, hackers took down several regional versions of the CN website (UK, Hungary and Brazil among others) and replaced the official video content with unauthorized clips, memes and music videos. CN disabled the affected websites and video players in the interim. That incident, though, was different from the current leak. The 2019 incident was a case of website defacement. The current incident is about internal animation and production materials going live.
Other entertainment companies have had similar exposures. In April 2024, there was a reported leak of Disney television animation development documents which included materials relating to Gravity Falls and The Owl House. That incident again demonstrated the kind of information that can be found in internal creative documents which studios would normally keep under wraps.
For Cartoon Network, the latest incident does raise questions about the protection of its production assets and how much of the material will be left behind once the copyright takedowns have been processed. As yet, we don’t know the full extent of the leak or the ramifications of it, so it’s all very much in the dark at this stage.
