Summer in October?
The Chicago area could tie or break the record high of 84 degrees Monday, with temperatures more than 20 degrees above normal before a cold front sends them plummeting, with the possibility of frost in the forecast by the weekend.
“A summer feel to start the week,” NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Iisha Scott said, with temperatures remaining warm Monday and Tuesday before a “really big temperature drop” later in the week.
Monday’s expected high is 85 degrees, Scott said. That’s one degree above the record high of 84 set in 2008.
Conditions will be slightly muggy too, Scott said, with dew points in the 50s and 60s.
“You’ll at least notice it,” Scott said, of the humidity. “But it won’t be terribly high for what you’d normally expect with temperatures in the mid-80s.”
Monday will also be breezy, with wind gusts as high as 25 to 30 mph at times.
Unseasonably warm weather will remain in the forecast Tuesday, with an expected high temperature of 81 degrees. Things will then start to change as a cold front moves through Wednesday, bringing the chance for rain, storms and temperatures in the 60s.
By Friday, high temperatures will only be in the upper 50s.
“We go from 85 Monday to 58 for a high on Friday,” Scott said. By Saturday morning, low temperatures in the 30s could bring frost.
