It’s almost time to head back to Edgewater. Fire Country Season 5 returns tonight, Friday, Oct. 9, and there is plenty of drama to look forward to.
The last we left Edgewater, Station 42 was finally getting back on its feet after the loss of Vince Leone. Shawn Hatosy came in as Battalion Chief Brett Richards, and his way of working completely went against the Leone way. In the end, Brett realized his own mistakes and handed the badge to Manny Perez (Kevin Alejandro), so Season 5 will see him leading Station 42.
Eve (Jules Latimer) will continue to lead Three Rock, the Cal Fire program for inmates to help fast-track their parole. This offers plenty of personal drama, as it highlights Manny’s view that people are not defined by their worst days. However, will he be able to stick with that view as the season progresses?
This is the first season to see a new series regular join. Look out for Olivia Thirlby.

All series regulars are expected to return this season, including the aforementioned Alejandro and Latimer. Max Thieriot will be back as Bode Leone, and he’ll be joined by Jordan Calloway as Jake Crawford and Diane Farr as Sharon Leone. Bode’s grandfather, Walter Leone, will also be back, with Jeff Fahey remaining as a recurring guest star.
There is a new cast member. Thirlby will join the series as Cecilia Jade “CJ” Ryan, and her first episode is the season premiere. She’s a former firefighter with a dark past that is set to come out throughout the season. She’s trying to run, but there’s something about Edgewater that gets her to stay — and no, it’s not just the sinkhole that forms in the premiere episode!
It’s not clear if Alona Tal will return as Chloe. She was introduced in the fourth season as a new love interest for Bode, but she isn’t in the first episode. There is a mention of her, offering hope that she could return.

What to Expect on ‘Fire Country’ Season 5
Fire Country Season 5 opens with the Founders’ Day festival, which turns out to be as catastrophic as you could imagine. A huge sinkhole opens up on Main Street, and it’s all hands on deck to get everyone out. CJ, Bode, and Jake will all need to work together underground to save lives and get people out of rubble-covered cars, while Manny, Eve, and others keep everyone at the top calm.
This isn’t the only issue, though. Station 42 is severely underfunded and that means understaffed. There haven’t been enough people to help take care of all the fires in the area, and the sink hole could end up causing a few problems for getting more hands on deck. Manny will need to find an inventive way to take the strain off his firefighters.
Of course, there are a lot of questions about CJ, who is running from something. She’s quick to help in the sink hole situation, making it clear that she is a former firefighter, so what happened to make her leave. Why is she trying to avoid that career path again?
Fire Country airs on Fridays at 9/8c on CBS.
