Almost two years after the former couple finalized their divorce, Affleck has once again made it clear that he remains impressed by Lopez’s talents.
The actor and filmmaker recently opened up about her career while discussing her work on The Kiss of the Spider Woman, the 2025 film on which Lopez also served as a producer.
Speaking with Variety in an interview published Oct. 7, Affleck acknowledged that his opinion of Lopez may come with some personal bias.
“I’m biased,” Affleck told Variety. “I have an enormous amount of respect and admiration for what she can do.”
Affleck went on to discuss Lopez’s performances, suggesting that some of her strongest work has not received the recognition he believes it deserves. He specifically pointed to her role in The Kiss of the Spider Woman as well as her acclaimed 2019 movie Hustlers.
The Argo star also offered a broader perspective on Hollywood awards and the way films and performances are judged. According to Affleck, critical recognition and commercial success do not necessarily determine whether a movie or performance is worthy of praise.
“What I’ve found with awards is that sometimes the degree of commercial success for things doesn’t always correlate to my taste,” he explained. “It’s a part of this weird, subjective business that people bring a lot of their own stuff to. I don’t always think the right person won the right award. But guess what? I don’t think you die and go to heaven, and God says, ‘This was the actual best picture in 1986.’”
He summed up his view rather bluntly: “At the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of people voting on movie prizes.”
Affleck’s latest comments are hardly the first time he has publicly championed Lopez’s career. The former couple, who were originally engaged in the early 2000s before rekindling their romance roughly two decades later, continued to make headlines even after their relationship ended.
Affleck also attended the premiere of The Kiss of the Spider Woman last year, where he showed his support for Lopez and praised the performance as one of her best to date.
