Horner’s staggering payday after Red Bull exit revealed ...Middle East

Sport by : (F1 News) -

Christian Horner lost his Red Bull empire during the summer of 2025, but it has come to light that the financial consolation prize for walking away from Formula 1’s most successful team in recent years was anything but modest.

Newly filed accounts at the UK’s Companies House reveal that Horner received a staggering £100.482 million (roughly $100 million) in compensation for “loss of office” following his departure from Red Bull last year, payday that makes his acrimonious exit look rather more comfortable from a financial perspective.

Horner was removed as Red Bull Racing CEO and team principal on July 9, 2025, before formally severing his remaining ties with the wider Red Bull Group a few months later.

The accounts for both Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Technologies subsequently identify their respective “highest paid director” – Horner at the time – as receiving enormous sums connected to his departure.

A £100 million goodbye

At Red Bull Racing, Horner was handed £33.494 million under the “compensation for loss of office” heading, on top of £4.441 million in regular remuneration covering his time with the company.

Red Bull Technologies was even more eye-watering.

The company accounts show £66.988 million in compensation for loss of office, alongside £9.029 million in remuneration for its highest-paid director.

Put the two companies together and Horner’s severance package alone reaches £100.482 million.

That is an extraordinary amount of money for a departure package, even by the lavish standards of Formula 1. Add his normal remuneration to the equation and it becomes abundantly clear that Horner did not exactly leave Milton Keynes clutching a cardboard box and wondering how he would pay the bills.

In fact, the sheer scale of the financial packages allocated to him ensures that the former Red Bull boss exits his long-running tenure at the team an exceedingly wealthy man.

Horner had also held directorships at Red Bull Powertrains and Red Bull Advanced Technologies, although their accounts state that directors’ remuneration was paid by other Red Bull Group companies.

From Red Bull power broker to free agent

The bumper payout closes a remarkable chapter for Horner, who spent more than two decades at the helm of Red Bull Racing and became one of the most recognisable figures in the F1 paddock.

Under his leadership, Red Bull transformed from an ambitious newcomer into a championship powerhouse, with Sebastian Vettel and later Max Verstappen delivering multiple drivers’ titles and a haul of Constructors’ crowns.

But Horner’s final years were dominated by internal political warfare and an increasingly bitter power struggle within the Red Bull organisation. His eventual dismissal in July 2025 brought that era to an abrupt end.

Financially, however, the ending was rather less brutal.

After his departure, Horner served a period of gardening leave and is now free to contemplate his next move.

He has made no secret of his desire to return to the Grand Prix paddock, and his forthcoming autobiography is already generating controversy with its account of his time at Red Bull.

Whether he returns as a team principal, an investor, or a team owner, one thing is crystal clear: leaving Red Bull may have cost Horner his pit wall, but it certainly made him a very, very rich man.
