President Donald Trump has found a new way to respond to the backlash surrounding his controversial TV ads and revealed that he won’t be relying on taxpayer money to fund television advertisements featuring him, announcing that pro-Trump super PAC, MAGA Inc., will cover the cost instead.
Trump addressed the issue Monday, October 5, after the administration faced a lot of criticism over ads that aired on television with a disclaimer stating they were “paid for by the U.S. Government.” The TV spots have prompted Trump and his administration’s message ahead of the November midterm elections.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump defended the advertisements while saying he had decided to shift their funding. The President noted that the “Radical Left” was upset that he was using “U.S.A. money” to pay for the TV ads, which were turning out to be a great promotion strategy for his campaign. As a result, he had decided to “pay for them myself, and with money I raised for MAGA, Inc.”
“The Radical Left is upset with the fact that I am taking Ads, which I consider to be a positive promotion for our Great U.S.A., and paying for them with U.S.A. money. This is a rather standard thing to do but, rather than doing that, although nothing will make them happy, I have decided to do the Patriotic Ads, among others, and pay for them myself, and with money I raised for MAGA, Inc. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote.
The controversy began in September when advertisements featuring Trump started appearing on national television. One 30-second spot showed Trump discussing his administration’s record and warning that America would not become a communist country. The White House has described the commercials as patriotic public service announcements rather than political advertising. A spokesperson previously said the spots were intended to remind Americans to love their country and understand what makes it worth defending.
Despite all the criticism, Trump’s statement has put the focus on who will pay for advertising going forward. MAGA Inc. is a pro-Trump super PAC that has raised hundreds of millions of dollars to support Trump and Republican candidates.
The development comes as the 2026 midterm elections approach, putting additional attention on the administration’s use of television advertising and the line between government public-service messaging and political promotion.
