Brewers, Padres Announce NLDS Rosters ...Middle East

News by : (MLBtraderumors) -

The Brewers and Padres play Game 1 of the NLDS tonight in Milwaukee, with Jacob Misiorowski starting against Robbie Ray.  The clubs have announced their 26-man rosters for the series, though the Padres have already made one change since the initial announcement this morning.

Right-hander Randy Vasquez will temporarily replace fellow righty Walker Buehler, as Buehler has been placed on the paternity list.  As per postseason rules, Buehler can be away from the team for a maximum of three days and a minimum of one day.  This puts Buehler’s availability for both today’s Game 1 and Sunday’s Game 2 in question, so it is possible Buehler might not be activated until the series heads to San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday.  It seemed like Buehler would start one of the series’ first two games, but Michael King could now be penciled in as the Game 2 starter, as King would be working on regular rest after pitching Tuesday in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series.

Apart from Vasquez’s late sub in for Buehler, San Diego is using the exact same roster used in the two-game sweep of the Cubs.  None of the relief pitchers made more than one appearance in the NLWCS and only Adrian Morejon threw more than one inning, so the Padres seemingly didn’t feel the need to bring any fresh arms into the bullpen mix.  King’s seven innings of shutout ball in Game 1 certainly helped in this regard, both for this series and for the Padres’ ability to use four pitchers in relief of Game 2 starter Nick Pivetta (who lasted 3 1/3 innings).

There was at least some doubt about Joey Ortiz’s availability, as the infielder hadn’t played since Milwaukee’s third-last game of the regular season.  A right knee bruise specifically took Ortiz out of that game, but manager Pat Murphy said that Ortiz had been playing through some groin and oblique soreness.  A full week of rest now has Ortiz ready to return to action, so the Brewers will probably have one of the second half’s hottest hitters in their lineup at third base.  Andrew Vaughn is also back for the Crew after being activated from the 10-day IL yesterday, as Vaughn hadn’t played since September 19 due to illness.

Padres catchers: Luis Campusano, Freddy Fermin, Ethan Salas Infielders: Miguel Andujar, Xander Bogaerts, Jake Cronenworth, Ty France, Manny Machado, Gavin Sheets Outfielders: Jase Bowen, Dustin Harris, Austin Hays, Jackson Merrill, Fernando Tatis Jr., Samad Taylor Left-handed pitchers: Yuki Matsui, Adrian Morejon, Robbie Ray Right-handed pitchers: Jason Adam, Michael King, Mason Miller, David Morgan, Joe Musgrove, Nick Pivetta, Bradgley Rodriguez, Randy Vasquez

Brewers catchers: William Contreras, Gary Sanchez Infielders: Jake Bauers, David Hamilton, Joey Ortiz, Cooper Pratt, Brice Turang, Andrew Vaughn Outfielders: Jackson Chourio, Sal Frelick, Luis Lara, Garrett Mitchell, Christian Yelich Left-handed pitchers: Aaron Ashby, Shane Drohan, Robert Gasser, DL Hall, Kyle Harrison, JoJo Romero, Right-handed pitchers: Logan Henderson, Dustin May, Trevor Megill, Jacob Misiorowski, Chad Patrick, Antonio Senzatela, Abner Uribe
