ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Walking For Rochester (WFR) is ending its 2026 Community Cleanup season, saying it was the organization’s largest and most impactful year yet, and the organization is hosting two community events to celebrate.

WFR ran 153 cleanup events throughout Rochester, removing exactly 12,522.3 pounds of litter with the help of 1,126 attendees throughout the year. The nonprofit said it removed more litter in 2026 than in its previous seasons combined since being founded in 2020.

“Our growth is proof that there is a movement across Rochester toward a litter free city. Litter is not inevitable,” said Matt Apple, Co-founder and CEO of Walking For Rochester. “In 2024, we removed about 2,100 pounds. In 2025, it was 5,285. Now, in 2026, we removed over 12,500 pounds. And we accomplished this without the full use of our Litter Elimination System (LES), which will go live at the start of the 2027 season.” WFR plans to enter the 2027 cleanup season with the LES to help with more efficient cleanups.

Upcoming celebration events

In October, there’s two community events: WFR Volunteer Social Hour and Walking For Rochester’s 5th Annual Fundraiser & Silent Auction.

First event

WFR Volunteer Social Hour is on Monday, Oct. 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Johnny’s Irish Pub, 1382 Culver Road.

Attendees can meet with those who helped with the cleanups in 2026, connect with the organization, and celebrate the cleanup season’s end. There’ll also be a mule drink special.

The event is free.

Second event

Walking For Rochester’s 5th Annual Fundraiser & Silent Auction is on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at ARTISANworks, Casablanca Room, 565 Blossom Road.
