Hilton’s head man: Rich Lipani one win away from breaking Section V record for coaching wins ...Middle East

HILTON, N.Y. — Hilton High School football coach Rich Lipani is one win away from breaking the Section V record for coaching victories.

Last Friday, Hilton beat its opponent 58-7 at Dick LeBeau Field, marking the Cadets’ fourth win of the season and Lipani’s 230th career victory, which tied him for the most all time by a Section V coach. Lipani said he hoped the record would be settled soon so people could stop talking about it and the team could focus on playing football.

“He won’t show it, but he puts so much time in in the off season and throughout the year. So I feel like he deserves all of it and I’m super happy for him,” Hilton quarterback Matt Kosiorek said.

Lipani has coached since the 1980s, getting his start when Dave Whitcomb hired him as a JV coach at Aquinas in 1985. The same Whitcomb he’s now tied at the top of Section V history.

“To be mentioned in the same breath as a Dave Whitcomb and other guys that are on top of that list, it’s just an honor,” Lipani said.

Kosiorek said toughness is what comes to mind when thinking of Lipani, describing it as the mindset the coach instills in his players every day.

Lipani said the Cadets had an opportunity to go 5-0 with a win against Webster Schroeder on Friday night.

The Cadets will play on the road at Webster Schroeder at 7 p.m. News10NBC will have highlights from this game and others across Section V football on News10NBC at 11 p.m.
