A music teacher in California was arrested after he was accused of possessing child sexual abuse materials on his personal devices.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement shared via Instagram that detectives with the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force conducted an investigation into Jiamo Chen after he was suspected of downloading child sexual abuse material.
Amid the investigation, detectives identified Chen, 43, as the suspect and learned that he operated a home music studio where he taught music lessons to students. Many of his students were children, with some being as young as 4 years old. Detectives also said that he had been working as a music teacher in the Sacramento area for a decade.
Detectives served a search warrant at Chen’s residence on Wednesday, September 30, and they found evidence of child sexual abuse material.

Chen was then arrested and charged with possession of child sexual abuse material, and he was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
Despite finding the materials, detectives said they have not uncovered evidence that Chen had inappropriate physical contact with any children or any of his students.
However, investigators did express their concerns that Chen had access to children and they were welcomed into his home through his work.
“Parents or guardians whose children have received music lessons from Chen are encouraged to speak with their children about their interactions with him,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Authorities added that they are now working to determine whether there may be additional unreported incidents involving Chen with minors. The sheriff’s office did note that they are not aware of any previous concerns or reports that have been made about the defendant in the past.
It’s not currently clear if Chen has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding updates in the case. The investigation remains ongoing.
