Prime Video’s brand-new fake dating romcom The Love Hypothesis, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman as Olive Smith and Dr. Adam Carlsen, respectively, just hit the streaming platform last week, but already, it’s getting a sequel.
The Love Hypothesis has fascinating origins, beginning as a fan fiction story based on the “Reylo” fan ship, referring to Rey and Kylo Ren from the Star Wars sequel trilogy. That in and of itself is a complex matter, as heated debate remains ongoing even several years later regarding whether they were romantic, despite their kiss at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.
Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis takes a clear stance on that, though, as its protagonist, Olive, is based on Rey, played by Daisy Ridley in Star Wars, and her fake boyfriend, Adam, is based on Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver in the films. The book became a smash hit, no doubt in part fueled by how massive and passionate the Reylo fanbase is.
Fans were therefore thrilled with the confirmation that The Love Hypothesis was getting an on-screen adaptation, and it seemed to only feel slightly odd for some fans that Bateman is Ridley’s real-life husband and would be stepping into the role of Adam. Clearly, however, that wasn’t a major deterrent, as the movie has proven popular enough that Hazelwood just took to Instagram yesterday to announce its sequel story.
Specifically, Hazelwood confirmed that The Two-Body Problem will be released as a new novel in February 2027 and currently has a movie adaptation in the works at Amazon MGM Studios. Both projects, Hazelwood shared, will mean the continuation of Olive and Adam’s love story on the page and on the screen.
View this post on InstagramAs indicated by Hazelwood’s post, this new story will see the couple over the span of at least a few years, as they navigate the choppy waters of a long-distance relationship and their respective careers. In all likelihood, this will prove particularly challenging for Olive, who will presumably still be a fairly new graduate.
