Jars of a popular salad and sandwich ingredient have been recalled after a social media video circulated showing what the company described as a “potential pest contamination.”
The limited voluntary recall, from G. L. Mezzetta Inc., was issued Saturday, Sept. 26, according to a release distributed by the Food and Drug Administration and posted on Mezzetta’s website. It affects a specific lot of 32-ounce Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat, the release said.
“We’re aware of a video circulating on social media showing a potential pest contaminant in a jar of Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat, 32-ounce,” the release said. “We have contacted the consumer and have moved quickly to investigate the situation and initiate a voluntary recall.”

Mezzetta Golden Greek Peperoncini Medium Heat 32 ounce SKU: 10106328 Lot: 720106Mezzetta said it identified where products from the recalled lot were distributed, and have contacted customers that received the product. The company is working directly with them to isolate and remove the affected product from sale, the release said.
Mezzetta also said it requested to review the product in the original consumer report and was assessing “the relevant production, sanitation and food-safety records as part of our ongoing investigation.”
No other Mezzetta products or lots were included in the recall, the release said, and no injuries were reported. Anyone who belives they have purchased a 32 oz. jar of Peperoncini from lot 720106 is urged to not eat it and instead contact Mezzetta customer support.
