Ed Sheeran’s Friday and Saturday night shows at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, have been canceled, with the stadium saying the reason is an oncoming nor-easter.
“The decision was made with the safety of fans and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority,” Gillette Stadium posted on social media.
A representive for Kraft also shared a statement with TMZ.
“. “Stadium and tour management, along with public safety officials, have been closely monitoring the weather forecast over the past week. Due to the severe weather forecast throughout the weekend, the tour has made the difficult decision to cancel the Ed Sheeran concerts at Gillette Stadium,” the statement read. “The decision was made with the safety of fans, staff and everyone involved in the shows as the top priority. Refunds are available now at the point of purchase. Ticketholders who purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded.”
Fans are being offered refunds through their point of purchase, with Ticketmaster set to automatically refund those who purchased through them.
This comes after all of Sheeran’s opening acts pulled out of the tour, prompting the singer to push back the start time.
Robert Kraft, who owns Gillette Stadium, publicly objected to rapper Macklemore’s participation in the tour, as he was speaking out about Israel and Gaza. Specifically, he made a controversial “Free Palestine” speech on stage during the Sept. 4 concert at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. As a result, the tour dropped him, and the other acts pulled out in solidarity.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, TMZ reported that the stage construction for the back-to-back concerts had been halted due to the weather threat.
