Evanescence are taking fans back to The Open Door. The band has announced a 20th anniversary expanded edition of the 2006 album, featuring newly remastered music, three additional tracks and a previously unreleased demo.
The record is out November 6 through Craft Recordings and will revisit the album with its original 13 tracks alongside “If You Don’t Mind,” “Together Again,” “The Last Song I’m Wasting On You” and a previously unreleased demo of “Good Enough.”
The anniversary collection will be released on 2-LP, CD and digital formats, with the vinyl available in several color variants, including Midnight Nebula, Metallic Blue, Sea Glass, Ghost Blend, Mercury Blend, Opaque Ivory and Translucent Cobalt. Fans can pre-order the various editions through Evanescence’s official website.
The announcement also includes a newly remastered version of “Sweet Sacrifice,” the album’s opening track.
Originally released in October 2006, The Open Door became Evanescence’s first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, selling 447,000 copies in the U.S. during its first week. The album went on to produce several of the band’s best-known songs, including “Call Me When You’re Sober,” “Lithium,” “Sweet Sacrifice” and “Good Enough.”
Making the album was an important period of growth for singer Amy Lee.
“The Open Door was such an important time for me, pushing boundaries and feeding my desire to experiment and grow. I wanted to connect on a deeper level, and fought for a future for the music I loved,” she explained. “It was beyond worth it. The fact that it resonates with so many people 20 years later means so much to me.”
“Sweet Sacrifice” wasn’t an easy song to write, and Lee has said it took longer to finish than any other track on the album. She and guitarist Terry Balsamo started it in early 2005, hit a wall, and set it aside for months before finally seeing it through.
“Sweet Sacrifice” was released as the third single from The Open Door in 2007 and later received a Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance.
