Presley died at the age of 27 after suffering a suspected overdose at a rehab facility on Sunday, Sept. 20. An official cause of death has not yet been determined.
In a statement to TMZ, a representative for Cindy, Rande, and their daughter Kaia Gerber said, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”
In an interview with People, a source close to the family said that Presley’s parents spent “years” helping him get treatment, including therapy, inpatient and outpatient rehab, and “so many types of homeopathic therapies.”
The source also noted that the couple “hired more than one sober coach” who were with Presley “almost always.”
“He had a stretch of time in the winter where he was clean, and his family was thrilled,” the source explained, before sharing that Presley’s last year had become “especially bad” and that the family is “devastated” over his death.

Per recordings obtained by the outlet, A 911 call was dispatched to Santa Monica, Calif. police on Sept. 20 for a cardiac arrest, with another dispatch revealing that first responders were responding to an overdose.
“The investigation is still ongoing and there is limited information available,” a statement from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office read following Presley’s autopsy on Monday, Sept. 21. “Death was pronounced at 09:45 hours on September 20, 2026, by responding paramedics. The Santa Monica Police Department is the investigating law enforcement agency.”
A spokesperson for the Santa Monica Police Department also shared there “was no indication of foul play” at the scene and noted the investigation was ongoing.
