The upcoming Gilmore Girls documentary may have fans in their feels, the show’s star Lauren Graham recently shared.
Speaking with Extra TV on the red carpet for Variety’s Power of Women 2026 event on Wednesday, the actress got to talking about how the recently-announced doc will provide fans with a new perspective of the show.
“It’s surprisingly emotional, and I think there’s a lot that fans [haven’t] heard before,” she said, explaining that filming the documentary allowed her to learn where Amy [Sherman-Palladino], the show’s creator “was when that all started.”
She shared that she’s also had “conversations I’ve never had” with Sherman-Palladino in the process of making the film.
Announced in August, the documentary — the name of which has not been disclosed — will reveal “how the show eclipsed expectations to become a cross-generational phenomenon by unpacking the unique alchemy of the creators, cast, crew and collaborators,” per a Warner Bros. press release.
The documentary will also show “never-before-seen outtakes” of the beloved TV show, which aired from 2000-2007 and followed the mother-daughter relationship of Lorelai Gilmore, played by Graham, and her daughter Rory, played by Alexis Bledel.

Graham was at the Variety event to support Gilmore Girls co-star Melissa McCarthy, who, along with Jennifer Hudson, Sharon Stone, and Pearlena Igbokwe, was a guest of honor.
While speaking at the event, McCarthy shared how Graham helped her “learn the ropes” of working on set, per video shared by Page Six.
“I loved to stand in Lauren’s light,” she said. “I could not find my mark to save my life, but I was like a guided missile for Lauren’s light and just put my big head right in front of it.”
“Lauren was of course the star of that show, and she could have thrown around her power and pointed out my mistakes,” McCarthy continued. “But instead she was incredibly kind and fun and quietly helped me learn the ropes within the scene, without her breaking character.” ?
