Remittances from Egyptians working abroad rose 28.1 percent year-on-year to around USD 29.7 billion (EGP 1.54 trillion) during the first seven months of 2026, up from approximately USD 23.2 billion (EGP 1.2 trillion) during the same period in 2025, according to a statement by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) on Monday, 21 September. Remittances are money sent home by Egyptians living and working abroad and represent an important source of foreign-currency inflows for the country. The CBE has also expanded digital services designed to make receiving remittances through the formal banking system easier. In July, remittances reached around USD 4.5 billion (EGP 232.6 billion), up 20 percent from approximately USD 3.8 billion (EGP 196.4 billion) in the same month last year. The figure was also higher than the USD 4.2 billion (EGP 217.1 billion) recorded in June 2026, when remittances rose 15.6 percent year-on-year. The latest figures follow a record year for remittances from Egyptians abroad.
