Who makes Opta’s WSL Team of the Week? We look through the data from Matchday 3 to find out.
The 2026-27 Women’s Super League continued to entertain on Matchday 3, with goals, records and late drama aplenty.
Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal remain the only unbeaten sides in the division, though the Gunners needed a stoppage-time equaliser to preserve that status.
Elsewhere, Manchester United produced a much-improved defensive display to claim their first point of the campaign, Spurs hit seven on the road against Crystal Palace, and several standout individual performances made selecting this week’s XI particularly difficult.
With strong cases to be made across the pitch, narrowing the field to just 11 players was no easy task. As ever, though, we’ve let the Opta data do the talking.
GK – Phallon Tullis-Joyce (Manchester United)
Manchester United may have been frustrated to concede deep into stoppage time against Arsenal, but they would have left north London with nothing were it not for Caitlin Foord low to her right. Beyond her shot-stopping, Tullis-Joyce also led all players in recoveries (16), underlining her command of the area and willingness to sweep up danger behind a disciplined United defence.
LB – Carlotta Wamser (Manchester City)
Maya Le Tissier embodied that resilience.
Le Tissier led United players for touches (75), passes ending in the final third (10), final-third entries (10), clearances (15), duels won (10) and aerial duels won (5). It was an all-action display from the defender, who ensured Arsenal struggled to sustain pressure for much of the contest.
Only against West Ham (September 2024) has Le Tissier won more duels in a single WSL match during her career, and her leadership was central to an improved United defensive performance.
CM – Lexi Potter (Chelsea)
Veerle Buurman. Only Lucy Bronze played more passes to Walsh during the game (13).
Potter won possession 10 times, the joint-third highest total of any player on MD3, while also demonstrating her security in possession with a 94.7% pass completion rate. Among Chelsea starters, only Buurman posted a higher passing accuracy (94.8%).
CM – Signe Gaupset (Tottenham)
Lauren Hemp was again at her devastating best against Liverpool as she became just the eighth player to score in 50 different WSL games.
The England international scored twice, with both goals showcasing one of the defining elements of her game: carrying the ball into dangerous areas before finishing. Hemp’s direct running repeatedly caused problems for Liverpool’s defence.
All five of her shots were on target, the highest total of any player on MD3 and just the second time in her career she has managed five shots on target in a WSL game, last doing so in April 2025 against Leicester City.
ST – Isobel Goodwin (London City Lionesses)
Daniela Arques, both of whom spotted her runs and supplied the passes that allowed her to attack dangerous spaces.
RW – Alice Bergström (Liverpool)
Liverpool’s attacking threat came from both flanks against Manchester City, with
