In 1985, Dolph Lundgren burst onto movie screens as the towering Soviet boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, instantly becoming one of the most recognizable action stars of the decade.
More than 40 years later, Lundgren looks quite different from the imposing 28-year-old who stepped into the ring opposite Sylvester Stallone, but the actor is still in impressive shape as he approaches his 69th birthday.
Lundgren, 68, was photographed in Philadelphia on Sept. 19 while on the book tour for his new memoir from Harper Collins titled “Fights Worth Fighting: Finding Strength in Struggle.”

In the new photos, the Swedish actor sported slicked-back gray hair and sunglasses while wearing a fitted white T-shirt with black trim and light-colored pants. One shot captured him smiling and waving at the photographer.
The casual T-shirt also made it pretty clear that more than four decades after Rocky IV, Lundgren hasn’t exactly abandoned the gym.
That shouldn’t be surprising. Lundgren recently told Muscle & Fitness that he still trains three times a week, combining weight training with karate. He said maintaining muscle becomes especially important with age and credited strength training with helping him through his cancer treatments.
The actor’s appearance comes after an extraordinary health battle that began when a cancerous tumor was discovered in his kidney in 2015. His cancer later spread, and at one point Lundgren was given a grim prognosis. After seeking a second opinion, however, doctors identified a mutation that allowed him to receive a different treatment, which dramatically shrank his tumors.
Lundgren announced in late 2024 that he was cancer-free.
According to Harper Collins, his experience as a cancer survivor is a major part of “Fights Worth Fighting,” which traces his unlikely path from chemical engineering student and martial arts champion to international movie star while also exploring his struggles with fame, family and cancer.
Lundgren’s Hollywood breakthrough came when he beat out thousands of other hopefuls to play Drago opposite Stallone in Rocky IV. He went on to star in movies including Masters of the Universe, The Punisher and Universal Soldier, before reuniting with Stallone for The Expendables franchise and eventually reprising Drago in 2018’s Creed II.
And Lundgren isn’t slowing down. Along with his memoir and book tour, the actor will be the subject of the upcoming documentary Dolph: Unbreakable, which begins streaming Oct. 6.
