The Traitors: New Blood has arrived! Throughout the season, Mike Bloom will speak with someone from the star-studded cast who was murdered or banished on the iconic Emmy-winning reality series.The Traitors is a game that’s all about clouding the minds of others with deception. And, for some, that deception began before even stepping foot in the castle. Kim Daily decided to lie about her law career before arriving in Scotland, worried about how people would see her. So she came in as a college basketball coach, hoping that team-oriented nature and motivational skills would make her a valuable Faithful. And, unfortunately, that’s exactly why Joe Vanella and Tomica Adams murdered her first. Looking at initial victims, they were worried about people who would be able to lead the charge against them at a Roundtable. And, given her apparent resume, Kim was perfectly qualified for the job of first boot. Nobody wants to be the first boot. But going into what would be your final night in the game, did you have any idea it would be you?By the time I was out there, I knew what was going on. But by the time when I got the letter, oh, I was I was shocked to high heavens. I had no idea. Did not think that was going to happen. I actually thought that the coast was clear. I thought I was about to get recruited to be a Traitor and go ahead and go get a full night’s sleep that night. What a twisted turn of events!So what was your reaction when you found out that one of the reasons Joe and Tamica wanted to murder you was because, given your fake job of college basketball coach, they were worried you could give a locker room speech at the Roundtable that could lead to their demise?It’s true. And I think that I could have said that I was a baker from Kentucky, and they would have been like, “She is going to bake a cake that’s going to get us all killed.” I think the coach cover didn’t help, but I don’t think that it was the reason why what happened happened.Well then, let’s talk about this coach cover. When you didn’t want to tell the truth about being a lawyer, why did you specifically settle on that?I actually ran cycles before I left for Scotland on, “What do y’all think is most convincing?” People have commented throughout my life on my speech patterns, on the way that I walk into a room, on the way that I carry myself. And so there’s certain things I think it would have been a little unbelievable. I do make, unfortunately, a very believable coach, and I wanted that consistency. You don’t know how many lies you’re gonna have to keep up with on the show, and so I wanted a cover that I naturally fit into, and that was the one that I landed on. If anybody has any other ideas, I am happy to hear them! [Laughs.] Honestly, I’ve been racking my mind for months as to what could have been different. But I think I would have to be raised differently and have different experiences in life in order for the outcome to have been different.Were there any times you came close to revealing you were actually a lawyer? Or when people were on to your actual job?Absolutely. So there was one instance where Michael was signing something. And I don’t know what he was signing, but I was like, “Oh, just sign it like a pleading!” And no one says that unless you’re a lawyer. And I was like, “Damn it, Kim!” But there was another. There were two times it happened. Once I was in the kitchen and Arissa came in. It seems like she had just met Michael, and she was like, “Speaking of lawyers, you look like one.” And very quickly, I said, “I get that all the time. If you all have been watching women’s college basketball since the ’90s, you should recognize Sean Miller was the first to don a suit like this on a basketball court.” So I went on this whole spiel about the rise of women’s basketball and women wearing men’s wear. They ate it up. And since probably part of her plot to get me off the show, Katie was like, “Really, a coach?” To which I responded, “Why does everyone keep asking me that? Yes, I’m absolutely a coach.” I made up a lie about how many years or X, Y, and Z. And I’m grateful for my cast member Madeline because she graduated from the University of South Carolina, and every women’s basketball coach knows that South Carolina women’s basketball dominates. So I’m gonna go with it. “You graduated in 2022? Yeah, they won the championship that year!” And then people left me alone because I know what I’m talking about because I’m a coach.Who was the top of your Traitors suspect list by the time you were murdered?Joe was one main suspect for sure. I kind of suspected about half the cast, to be honest with you. But Joe was at the top of that list, and I was still sussing everybody else out before I got caught in a trap.What was it about Joe specifically?I spent a lot of time with Joe during filming. He was the person I sat next to on the train. He was the person that I rode to the castle with the first time. And that was part of my goal: Get to know how people are from the beginning, and then see what changes happen once those blindfolds come off. And once those blindfolds came off, all of a sudden I was the most interesting thing in the world to Joe. I’m an interesting person. I can’t get enough of myself. But you seem to be doing a little bit of snooping. You seem to be trying to buddy up with me. I know I’m funny, Joe. I’m not that funny, my guy! So I was like, “This is some suspicious behavior. What’s going on here?”What about Tomica?She was on my radar, but further down. So I would say I suspected probably 10 people. She might have been about number eight.Who were you working with closest by the time you were murdered?Abby L. and I had just started to form a bit of an alliance, and so we were filling out, watching where everybody else went, deciding, “We’re gonna try to get a little close.” I was getting to know Jay, who I really can’t wait to see all that became of Jay once I left the castle. I have heard some things! And then Tomica is someone that I’m just naturally drawn to. But you can’t get too comfortable because it is a game of treachery and deceit.Well, something that could have made you feel comfortable is a Shield. Did you ever debate going for one in that first mission?Quiet as it’s kept, I actually touched the Shield in the challenge.Really?!I pulled myself up by the straps and did an excellent upper body workout. I got on the boat. I started to undo the things. It was getting hot. Felt like I was gonna pass out. Couldn’t access it easily. At that point, I’d been up there for a minute. I’m like, “I’m taking too much time away.” I feel like there’s a target on me. I don’t want people to think that I’m trying to cover up something. I’m a team player, Coach Kim. Coach Kim ain’t no threat! Some people that need a Shield are those who pose a threat. I’ll leave it. That’s how Madeline got the Shield. I knew my name would be on the chopping block. I didn’t think it’d be on then.
