While the last full day of summer won’t exactly feel like it, the start of fall is looking to kick off on a better note.
Weekend storms and rain brought more than 2 inches of precipitation to parts of the region and rain lingered into Monday, with scattered showers possible during the morning and afternoon. The rain was met with cooler temps as highs dropped into the mid-60s.
While some showers could continue Tuesday morning, things look to dry up from there, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
Tuesday will start out cloudy but could slowly see some sunshine emerging, again with cooler temperatures as highs are only expected to reach into the low-60s. Parts of Chicago could be even cooler than that, with lake breezes potentially dropping temperatures by a few degrees on the first official day of fall.
The fall equinox is set to arrive at 7:04 p.m. CT Tuesday, marking the official end of summer and start of autumn.
Temperatures will slowly start to warm up during the back half of the week, rising into the mid-to-upper 60s by Thursday and then perhaps back into the low-70s by next weekend, according to extended forecast models.
