His publicist Claire Mercuri quickly confirmed he is alive, fresh from emailing him, and the glitch was fixed. The scare followed recent news of his normal pressure hydrocephalus diagnosis and shunt surgery.

On top of his health issues, plus multiple deaths in the entertainment industry that have happened over the past month, including Dolly Parton, Tim Curry and Hayden Panettiere, many online were concerned.
A fan brought up on X: “ok did billy joel die or is wikipedia wrong?”
“why tf is @Google saying billy joel is dead hello ???” a concerned fan posted on X, along with the screenshot saying he passed away on Sept. 17.
