Mega-successful thriller author Freida McFadden has one of the more unique backstories for a writer of her notoriety.
Born Sara Cohen, McFadden is a pseudonym used just for her author ventures; she studied mathematics at Harvard before attending medical school at Stony Brook University. McFadden landed in the neurological world after med school, becoming a physician specializing in brain injuries, specifically in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She practiced full-time outside of her home in the Boston area before taking a step back, but not fully retiring, in 2023.
Her 2016 novel, Brain Damage, calls on this life experience in the medical world directly and almost personally.
