Fear is spreading in Chicago after several groping incidents and sexual assaults were recently reported on the city’s train system and across three neighborhoods.
“It’s something that even if you haven’t experienced that, you’re always looking over your shoulder,” said Wicker Park resident Hannah Schmitz. “So to experience that in real life when that is already a fear of yours has got to be something that is really hard to live with after the fact.”
Police are looking for suspects after at least five attacks were reported in across three different Chicago neighborhoods.
Three of those attacks happened in Avondale between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, police said in a community alert. In all three cases, an unknown suspect approached the victims from behind, wrapped his arms around them and then grabbed their breasts and groin area over their clothes.
“It’s horrible,” said Wicker Park resident Vincent Lazzari. “We got to do something to make sure that these people can’t be out here, you know, with their desires or fantasies. It’s horrible. It’s disgusting”
Another recently reported sexual assault took place on the Blue Line on September 5.
Police released an image of the suspect, who they say sprinted toward the victim at the Division Station and reached under her skirt.

“We need to find a solution for that because I want everyone to feel safe, I want women to feel safe riding the public transport alone,” said Aisha Khan, a Wicker Park resident.
Police are also looking for a man they say approached a 25-year-old woman on the Red Line at the State and Lake station around 9 p.m. on Sept. 3, groped her and then fled.
Investigators are asking neighbors to check their doorbell and surveillance camera footage in hopes of getting a better picture of the suspects.
