Service was halted and then delayed on two Chicago Transit Authority train lines on Tuesday evening because of a medical emergency on the tracks near a station in South Loop, officials said.
Around 7:30 p.m., service was temporarily suspended on parts of both the CTA Orange Line and Green Line as officials responded to a “medical emergency” on the tracks near the Roosevelt station.
Chicago Fire Department said a 50-year-old woman was transported to a local hospital from the scene, where she was initially listed in critical condition.
As a result, Green Line trains were operated in two sections — between 63rd/Cottage & 63rd/Ashland stations and 35th, and, between Adams/Wabash and Harlem/Lake — and Orange Line trains were operating only between Midway Airport and Halsted until approximately 8:30 p.m.
Then, around 8:30 p.m., CTA announced trains were moving again but delays were expected.
Shuttle buses were requested for both lines while traffic was halted.
“Consider other service alternatives that may serve your trip, such as nearby bus routes or using buses to other rail lines,” CTA advised on its website.
