Orlando Bloom is ready to return to the high seas, but he doesn’t want to do it without the original Pirates of the Caribbean crew.
Nine years after the franchise’s most recent movie, Bloom was asked what is holding up another installment while attending the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
“I ask that all the time,” the 49-year-old actor told Entertainment Weekly on September 13.
Bloom, who played blacksmith-turned-pirate Will Turner, also revealed that he remains in contact with Johnny Depp.
“I do connect with him every now and again, because he’s amazing,” Bloom said.
Depp starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in all five Pirates movies, beginning with 2003’s The Curse of the Black Pearl. Bloom and Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth Swann, anchored the original film alongside him.
But Bloom doesn’t appear interested in returning for a reunion involving only one or two familiar faces. He praised the ensemble—which also included Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally—as “a really good group of people.”
Bloom has previously said that another movie would work only if “everybody” returned, per the outlet. This time, he pointed to audiences’ enduring affection for familiar characters and stories as one reason the franchise could still have life in it.
The actor admitted, however, that he hasn’t received any concrete information about when—or how—another film might happen.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has also expressed interest in having Depp return, but Disney has not officially confirmed Bloom, Depp, Knightley or the rest of the original cast for a sixth movie.
